In July, 2010, I joined a cycling trip in Alaska that started and ended in Anchorage. People rode from 0 to over 300 miles total. I rode about 220 miles in 4 days. The toughest day was day 1, just 21.6 miles with 3250 feet elevation gain in the pouring rain. The EFMers (every f..ing mile) descended in the rain as well, while several of us happily jumped in the van.Day 2 lunch because I didn't take any photos on day 1. [_10alaska001]On day 2 we rode 60 miles through the Matanuska Valley - 3,000 feet elevation gain [_10alaska005]Kevin, Susan and Vertner riding up the hill. [_10alaska010][_10alaska012]Barbara's 68 and rides like she's 28. [_10alaska022][_10alaska023]Vans are a nice perk for long days on the road. [_10alaska016]Susan (65, rides like she's 25), Megan (25, rides like she's 45), Kevin, Catherine, Suzie, Vertner and Barbara [_10alaska018]Who sells a shed on the side of a road? [_10alaska019]Now this is what I'm used to. [_10alaska025][_10alaska026]On day 3 we rode on the Glenn Highway to Copper River Princess Wilderness Lodge, located at the junction of the Klutina and Copper Rivers. I rode a total of 79 miles after missing our lunch spot by 9 miles, and then returning because I was not going to miss lunch! [_10alaska027]Mount Drum (12,010 feet) [_10alaska083]Day 4 was century day for some and the easist 60 miles of my life for me. Feeling a bit sore in my saddle, I joined others on the mostly downhill parts of this route along the Richardson Highway, over the Thompson Pass and down into Valdez.
