Lobuche East (20,075ft/6119m) is a trekking peak. The main peak of Lobuche, Lobuche West (20,161ft/6145m), requires an expedition peak permit that is considerably more expensive. Himex members climbed Lobuche East twice to avoid climbing through the Icefall to acclimatize for Everest. [_EVE090122]

![Hiro took this of Shinji and me on our way to Lobuche Base Camp. It makes me cringe. I was up coughing for hours two nights before. At some point I tore a muscle in the left side of my chest (I'm not sure what I did, only that it was extremely painful) and on the way to Lobuche it suddenly felt like I had a golf ball with spikes digging into my heart. It hurt to breathe and needless to say, I was not having a good day. [Photo by Hiro Kuraoka IMG_2959]](../imgThmb/IMG_2959o.jpg)

![Lobuche BC as Team 3 goes up to camp 1 - I stayed behind and instead climbed with the trekkers on April 22, spent the night at high camp on April 23 with Team 1 during their second Lobuche ascent, and descended and walked back to Everest BC on April 24, in time to call my parents to wish them a happy 61st anniversary and my Mother a happy 84th birthday. I only climbed Lobuche once but thankfully, once was enough for me to acclimatize. [Photo by Hiro Kuraoka IMG_2989]](../imgThmb/IMG_2989o.jpg)
![The view from the summit of Lobuche East. After taking a strong anti-inflammatory for a few days, I was able to climb with Eugene, Monique (Eugene's mother), another trekker and two Sherpas. It took just over 4 hours for me to reach the summit, where I discovered I only had one shot left. I didn't take other photos, so I am including several that Hiro took of Team 3's climbs.
