MY CATCH - KAKANUI [7068 NZ] This is a rainbow trout that I caught after a lengthy "Brad Pitt" run down the river. I caught 2 fish that day. Larry caught 14. If you want to see my actual photo with my big catch, you'll have to visit Dave's website - http://www.mataura.co.nz/.

![DESPERADO ON THE AHURIRI [7086 NZ] This is the diehard fisherman desperate to fish. Despite the wind (difficult for casting) and the cloudy weather (difficult to see the fish), Larry gave it a go. From my point of view, this just doesn't look like fun but then again my idea of fun is walking up hills slowly while barely breathing. Regardless, it makes for some dramatic photos.](../imgThmb/7086_NZ_O.jpg)

![THE WAIMAI [7110 NZ] This is a beautiful stream in New Zealand. It was originally a zig zag through the land until the farmers straightened it. Some fishermen stay away from this river, thinking it is ruined, but there are plenty of fish and it is still beautiful.](../imgThmb/7110_NZ_O.jpg)

![DAVE [7052 NZ] Dave is a fly fishing guide. He enjoys talking and studying American politics and didn't hesitate to let me know he doesn't like George Bush (I'm being gentle), the Republicans (although he admitted one of his favorite clients is a Republican) and Australians. He's retired, living off his pension (all Kiwis get a pension once they reach a certain age) and guiding, and is a black belt in karate (so if you are a Bush fan, pretend you're not). He's fished several times in the US but prefers New Zealand. Dave patiently taught me how to fly fish but we mostly had fun joking around. His website is at http://www.mataura.co.nz/.](../imgThmb/7052_NZ_O.jpg)

![JOHN AND BETSY [2058 NZ] John and Betsy McKenzie own the farm, close to Oamaru. They provide room and board for fly fishermen (and women). Not only do they offer a warm cozy home, but Betsy cooks up a hardy breakfast and dinner, Their daughter-in-law, Bridget, provides lunch, and boarders gain access to a little-known stretch of river with abundant rainbow trout.
